About Us

The Western Pennsylvania Museum Council (Museum Council), formerly the Greater Pittsburgh Museum Council, is a non-profit consortium, founded in 1984.

The Museum Council's members are non-profit institutions that are located in western Pennsylvania and are open to the public.

These organizations acquire, conserve, research, communicate, and exhibit artistic, cultural, industrial, natural and/or scientific heritage.

Currently, membership is comprised of museums in 17 counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Crawford, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Somerset, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland.

The Museum Council promotes communication, collaboration, and professional development among its member museums.
